Fir Pósta v Fir Singil

The married men (Fir Pósta) (6-4) took the laurels over the single men (Fir Singil) (1-8) in the annual Christmas game on Sun 29 Dec 2013 at MUSA. An extra man for the married men allowed them employ a very effective zone defence game plan that was instrumental in them gaining the laurels. £233 was collected & presented to St Vincent De Paul afterwards. A very enjoyable outing it was in the age-old camán tradition of hurling at Christmastide. As the beautiful 19th Gaelic song Airde Chuain puts it -

Is iomai Nollag a bhí mé féin
i mBun Abhainn Doine, is mé gan chéill
Ag iomainn ar a trá bán
'S mo chaman bán ins mo dhorn liom

Its many's a Christmas I was myself
In Cushendun, without a care
Hurling on the white beach
And my fair hurley in my fist with me

Ceardlann Fhorbartha /Bricfeasta Mór |Development Workshop/Big Breakfast
A very fruitful and well attended club development workshop & breakfast morning took place last Saturday 4th Jan 2013 in the Washingbay centre. Findings will direct the efforts of NCC over the next few years. The club thanks the ladies and gents volunteers who organised the breakfast, Conor & Collie for guiding the strategic workshop and the NCC community for being there and giving generous donations. Maith sibh.

Comórtas Lán-Ghaeilge

Ghlac páistí ó fhoireann faoi 8 NCC páirt sa Chomórtas Iomána/Camógaíochta lán Ghaeilge faoi dhíon i Machaire Fíolta ar na mallaibh (Dé Sathairn 28 Nollaig 2013). D'imir siad in éadan Gaeil Charn Tóchair, Baile na Scríne agus Gaoth Dobhair ón Ghaeltacht Thír Chonaill. Bhain na páistí an sult as an iománaíocht agus faill iontach a raibh sé acu a bheith in ann Gaeilge a labhairt ar fud fad an mhaidin.Beidh an chéad chomórtas eile i mBaile na Scríne le linn Mí an Mhárta agus lá eile chomh maith i nGaoth Dobhair timpeall tús Mí na Bealtaine.

Children from the NCC U8 team took part in an all-Irish speaking indoor hurling/camogie blitz in Magherafelt recently (Saturday 28 Dec 2013). They played against Carntogher, Ballinascreen and Gaoth Dobhair from the Donegal Gaeltacht. They really enjoyed the hurling and the opportunity to speak Irish all through the morning. The next blitz will be in Ballinascreen during March as well as a full day in Gweedore around the beginning of May.

Corn Bhriain Bhuí Mhic an tSagairt 2014 - Iománaíocht Bhóthair

The annual Brian Buí Taggart Memorial Cup for Road Hurling takes place on Sat 1st February at Páirc Chlochóg. It is open to both male and female participants and everyone will be made very welcome. Please note that U16s must be supervised by a parent or authorised guardian. Always a very enjoyable event, the route involves a pleasant circular walk around the townlands of Clochóg, Lower Meenagh and Drummurrer with camán & sliothar in hand. Its more casual than a puckabout and suits all levels from complete beginner to the polished wielder of ash. There is a lovely bowl of Irish Stew at the end of the circuit (my favourite part) and it's a great way to get out of the house, meet people and enjoy the first day of Spring - Imbolc. Bígí Linn.
