The dust has finally settled over Páirc Clochóg after the official opening of the field. The weekend was a brilliant success with large crowds of gaels turning up from all parts of the county to wish the club well in our new facilities.
The club were proud to welcome GAA President Nicky Brennan to perform the opening and his presence will help to raise the profile of hurling development within the county. He was full of praise for such a young club to have developed grounds and established a home for hurling in the area. We appreciate his words of encouragement and hopefully we can translate this to results on the field of play.
Club President Liam Mulcahy has never forgotten the club and it was an honour for us to host the visiting hurlers from Tallow, Co Waterford. Liam was a driving force to establish a field during his time with the club and he was truly proud to be involved in the opening. He’s been a stalwart for us over the years and the club are grateful for the work and passion he still shows for us.
The U14 team started the day off with a thrilling game against Éire Óg, Carrickmore. This was only right as the lads have put in a huge effort this year and they can lay claim to being the most successful team in the club for 2006.
The U8 and U10 teams have been hurling throughout the year and it was great for them to display the skills they’ve improved on. These lads are starting out on their hurling careers with an established pitch for training and games and this is were the future of our club lies. It was great to see the enthusiasm they showed and you’d have thought some of them were stepping out to play in a championship final.
There was a lot of work and time put in, not just this year but over several years, to get us to this milestone in our clubs development. We’d like to thank all those involved.
